Out Back Learning serves children and families in Sierra Vista, Arizona and the surrounding area.
Mrs. Dee offers a 10:3 children to teacher ratio. Each child and family receive the care and attention they need to thrive!

Enrollment Process
1. Submit your questions
The first step is to submit your questions and share details about your child. Mrs. Dee will respond and share more details about Fall 2026 enrollment.
2. Register your child
If you and Mrs. Dee determine you are a good match for one another, you can reserve a spot for your child by paying the registration deposit.
If you are not ready to enroll, you can ask to be put on our waitlist to be notified as the school year approaches if there are still spaces available.
3. See you on our first day!
After you register, we're ready for you to join us on our first session on Tuesday August 17, 2026! Mrs. Dee and the Out Backer Team is so excited to learn and play with you.
Schedule
🌞 Out Back Learning Summer Sessions
Out Back Learning offers short summer sessions for families who would like their children to continue learning, exploring, and spending time outdoors during the early summer months.
Our 2026 Summer Session will run:
May 18 – June 18, 2026
Summer sessions will be offered on a part-time schedule:
• Monday & Wednesday
• Tuesday & Thursday
During this time, Out Backers will continue enjoying many of the same experiences offered during the school year, including nature exploration, outdoor play, gardening, cooking activities, and hands-on learning in our backyard classroom.
These shorter sessions are a wonderful way for children to stay connected to learning, build friendships, and spend meaningful time outdoors before the warmer Arizona summer months arrive. For families who are new to Out Back Learning, summer can also be a great opportunity to experience the program and see if it’s a good fit before enrolling for the fall semester.
Additional summer sessions may be added based on family interest and program demand. 🌵🌞
🌵 Program Schedule
Out Back Learning operates on a 17-week semester schedule, designed for families who want to invest in their child’s early learning while still maintaining part-time flexibility. This schedule allows parents time to run errands, work remotely, or manage daily responsibilities while their Out Backer learns and grows in a safe environment with small group ratios and individualized attention.
Because Mrs. Dee is also a full-time college professor, the Out Back Learning schedule aligns closely with the college academic calendar.
Out Back Learning remains open on most federal holidays, but we observe the following seasonal breaks:

- January 6 – May 13

(Covers the Teaching Strategies GOLD account and program supplies.)

Extended Nature Time

Important Program Update
Beginning with the upcoming school year, Out Back Learning will no longer offer drop-in daily or weekly rate during the fall and spring semesters. This change helps maintain consistency for children and supports the rhythm of our daily program. However, something new we are offering is a four-day enrollment option starting next school year, though spaces will remain limited to maintain our small group experience.
Drop-in extended time will still be available during summer sessions.

Families receive a comprehensive early childhood learning experience, including:
- Nutritious Breakfast & Snack
Breakfast served at 7:30 AM - Access to the Playground App for daily communication, updates, photos, and important program information for families.
- Out Back Learning Backpack for your Out Backer to carry their essentials and learning materials to and from the program.
- Books for Parents and Children to support learning at home and encourage a love for reading together.
- Gardening Take-Home Activities that allow children and families to continue exploring nature, gardening, and hands-on learning beyond our backyard classroom.
- Teaching Strategies GOLD Assessment
A research-based system that tracks 38 developmental and learning objectives for young children. - ASQ®-3 Developmental Screening
A developmental screening tool used for children 1 month to 5½ years to help monitor growth and development. - Rutabaga Garden Curriculum
A garden-based program that teaches children about science, nature, nutrition, and gardening. - Kickstart Literacy Program
A science-of-reading-based literacy program that builds phonemic awareness, phonics, and vocabulary. - Creative Curriculum for Two-Year-Olds
A research-based curriculum designed to support meaningful learning through everyday routines and play.
2026 - 2027 Calendar
Out Back Learning runs a particular schedule due to Mrs. Dee serving as a full-time college professor at Tohono Oʼodham Community College. Out Back is open at specific times to offer flexibility to parents and primary caregivers who work remotely, need to run errands, and want to give their children learning experiences where they can thrive and deepen their connections with nature, community, and one another.
